Greptile Founders Set Sights on $180M Valuation with Benchmark-Led Series A

22 Jul, 2025 128

Mumbai, July 22, 2025Greptile, a U.S.-based AI startup that helps developers review code, is reportedly finalizing a $30 million Series A round that could value the company at $180 million. The investment is expected to be led by Benchmark partner Eric Vishria, according to TechCrunch and Bens Bites.

Founding Team and Early Backing

Founded in 2023 by Daksh Gupta, Soohoon Choi, and Vaishant Kameshwaran, Greptile began its journey at Y Combinator’s Winter 2024 batch. Shortly after, it raised $4 million in seed funding led by Initialized Capital.

Tackling a Unique Developer Challenge

Greptile’s platform is an AI-powered assistant designed to help developers read and understand complex codebases. Rather than generating new code, it excels at navigating existing code, answering natural language queries, and assisting with debugging and documentation. “It’s like having a brilliant teammate who never sleeps,” Gupta told TechCrunch. This focus supports onboarding, audits, and maintaining legacy systems.

Quiet Growth, Loud Potential

Greptile has grown with minimal public fanfare, concentrating on its product rather than hype. It prioritised refining its core engine over courting headlines, avoiding the noisy marketing often associated with AI startups. This disciplined approach aligns with Benchmark’s history of supporting technically ambitious companies.

Greptile stands out by doing the hard work of building infrastructure that gets used. In contrast to a market flooded with ChatGPT wrappers and flashy demos, its practical utility is a key differentiator.

The startup has also attracted attention for its intense work culture. Founder Daksh Gupta revealed the team works from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m., six days a week, with “no work-life balance.” He emphasized, “If you’re putting in 95% effort, it’s the same as putting in 0%,” reflecting a culture of extreme focus and ambition. While controversial, the commitment reflects the team’s drive to build a category-defining product.

Competitive Landscape Heats Up

Greptile operates in a competitive space. Rivals like Graphite, which raised $52 million in Series B funding, and Coderabbit, which secured $16 million in a 2023 Series A, are also leveraging AI to streamline code review processes. Yet Greptile’s distinct emphasis on deep code comprehension sets it apart.

Benchmark's Strategic Interest

Benchmark’s potential backing could be transformative. Known for early bets on companies like Docker and Twitter, Benchmark offers both capital and strategic depth. Its involvement may boost Greptile’s visibility, hiring capabilities, and enterprise outreach.

What’s Next for Greptile?

If the funding closes, Greptile aims to expand its team, enhance its AI capabilities, and deepen its presence in enterprise software development. The startup is also focused on strengthening code quality, productivity, and scalability for modern software teams.

With sharp execution and investor confidence, Greptile is fast becoming a serious contender in the AI development space.
